Front & Back

We inherited two spectacular plants with this house, one in the front yard and one in the backyard. Up front, one side of our porch is home to a vibrant pink hydrangea.

And out back, in the middle of our yard, sits a mimosa tree. Albeit a silly name for a tree, the strangeness of the name fits the strangeness of the tree. According to our neighbors, it's the last to flower and the first to lose leaves.

When the tree is in bloom, I find it to be one of the most striking trees around. I can attest that it was the last tree to sprout leaves, but I'd argue that the silky, frond-like leaves that provide a pleasing canopy in our backyard made it worth the wait. Apparently, the leaves will eventually be joined by pink pom pom flowers that resemble something out of a Dr. Seuss story.
