London in Late August

We flew to England four days before my best friend Brittany's wedding festivities started, both as an attempt to acclimate to the greater time difference from the west coast (now a formidable eight hours instead of five), and to eat, drink, and wander around in one of our favorite cities. On previous trips to London, we've stayed in the Shoreditch neighborhood, home to Spitalfields Market, the eclectic Redchurch Road, numerous coffee shops, and a short walk to Brick Lane and Columbia Street.

This time, we stayed at The Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell. Along with continuing to walk to our favorite spots in East London, we also explored the city from a different vantage point, strolling Exmouth Market and walking down to St. Paul's Cathedral.

I always find myself wistfully reminincising about each trip to London before the visit is even over. In the two weeks since our return, several moments stand out vividly: our repeat visits to Workshop Coffee (formerly St. Ali), the view from tea at the National Portrait Gallery, walking along the Thames at dusk, devouring pizza from Story Deli, and sipping Prosecco at Trullo's exceptional Sunday "brunch".

London, we'll be back...soon, I hope.
